Ditching Cable September 6, 2010 digmy78 I am new to Over The Air reception, so this is a learning experience for me. I got tired of paying $180 a month for Comcast cable, and them changing my channels and costs when they felt like it. I decided to make the leap and cancel my cable, use OTA channels and the internet. I bought the DB2 and installed it in my attic. It was very easy to install and find the right direction. The most difficulty I had was running the cable itself. I have the cable (about 100') going in to a splitter which is splitting the signal to about 6 tvs throughout my house. I still get very good reception on about 27 channels. This antenna says it is rated to about 30 miles, but I live about 35-40 from Denver, and still get their signals just fine. I may invest in a signal booster/splitter because there are some channels that have a weak signal, but it is no doubt because of the distance I live from the city and how many times I am splitting the signal. I am very pleased with this product, and will gladly put the extra $120 a month in my pocket!!
indoor use (NYC) September 6, 2010 Red Lover (NYC) Not too large. Using indoors in NYC, but window facing east, so not getting channel 7, 11, 13, but stable 25, 50, 2, 4, 5, 9 etc. Could get a splitter to get 13 with rabbit ears, but is much better than the amplified ears alone.
Does the job here in L.A., even with an obstructed view! September 1, 2010 The Moth (Los Angeles) We are 15 miles from Mt. Wilson (and all of the broadcast towers), so it would normally be a no-brainer to get great OTA signals. Our problem is a giant condo complex dwarfing our little house, and blocking direct signals from the towers.
In theory, you don't need a unidirectional antenna in L.A., but this one works very well for us! After a test in the attic didn't go well, we mounted it outside (on the post that used to support the Dish!). It pulls in an average of 70% per station, with the exception of one PBS station, and CBS at night. We hooked up a Winegard signal booster, not only because of the condo building, but the TiVo Premiere we use doesn't have the strongest OTA tuner. The booster really helped out, and we have no noticeable signal loss on nearly all the channels (the PBS still has artifacts in the late morning, but it's much better).
This was a good antenna for us -- good bye, Dish! Hello, extra $850 a year!
Great Signal in Baltimore August 31, 2010 Consumer 3000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this antenna after getting very inconsistent reception with a set of RCA rabbit ears, living northwest of Baltimore, MD. I setup the DB2 antenna indoors, mounted on a camera tripod (consult [...] to see which type of antenna to buy and the direction to point it towards). Instantly, I saw the difference. Every channel, with the exception of 11.1 NBC, a VHF station (remember, this is a UHF antenna), came in crystal clear. To get 11.1, I attempted to use a coax splitter to add my old rabbit ears antenna in addition to the DB2 to get better reception. For some reason, just adding the splitter alone to the coax cable with no other antenna besides the DB2 connected to the TV fixed the reception problem. I can't precisely explain why this worked - it was just luck. Today, I not only get 11.1, but I receive every major Baltimore AND Washington, D.C. station and have NEVER had even the slightest disruption in reception. I cannot recommend this antenna enough for people in the Baltimore/DC area (but be sure to checkout [...] first).
Digital TV Antenna August 24, 2010 JWyn (Columbus Ohio) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Update 26 Aug 2010: Overcame the directionality problem by removing the reflector screen. Reception remains superior to rabbit ears. Antenna is mounted indoors.
Good improvement over rabbit ears. Does not pick up more channels in our urban, tree lined area. Quite directional which for us is a bit of a problem: our major channels are 180 degrees apart ( see [...] ). Have considered purchasing another, point it 180 degrees away from the first and use A-B switch to toggle between them.
