Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room? | With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. - Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
- Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Very Good LG LCD August 31, 2010 J. Keeler (Clarksville VA USA) I've owned plasma, lcd and projector HDTV's and recently purchased this LG 42" set. I'm very impressed with the overall picture quality.
Great image quality and very accurate colors after tweaking the attributes a bit.
I haven't tested it with a CRT monitor, but gaming lag seems very low.
Amazing clarity and sharpness, works very well as a PC Monitor using HDMI.
I believe the setting "Just Scan" is 1:1 pixel mapping.
120hz for Sports! It's great! I don't like it at all for any other viewing other than sports. The Trumotion 120hz feature can be disabled or enabled at any time. It creates a rather unnatural looking "Live Shoot" "Home Video" kind of effect--but it works well with live action sporting events such as football. In 60hz mode this LCD performs well with sports but you'll notice slightly blurry, slightly pixellated "artifacts" when a football player is running (certain camera angles are worse/better) pixellated turf at times, etc. It's not hugely noticeable but it's there when you really focus on it in fast motion sports. The Trumotion feature almost eliminates these artifact/blur issues, I leave it on during NFL games--yes the commercials look a bit weird with it, but for the live action game I love it.
Black level could be better, some backlight flashlighting on an all-black background--one of the tradeoffs with many LCD's.
Cooler than a plasma which heats up a smaller room, great (almost too much so) clarity and definition compared even to most plasmas (plasmas usually have a slightly softer definition that many believe looks more natural)
Lower resolution standard TV and even lower res pictures on a PC suffer, this baby loves 720p/1080p/1080i and general high res content.
Excellent "tweakability" the controls are great for getting the picture you want. Many different modes, cinema with warmer hues, game mode with all specialty controls turned off, and one thing I love is this TV remembers your picture settings per input. A lot of tv's in this range don't do this. Tweak the Cinema picture setting on your Blu Ray HDMI 1? It remembers those settings for that HDMI 1 input and all other inputs when you switch inputs.
woodman71 1st HDTV purchase August 29, 2010 woody teel This was my 1st HDTV purchase & I would rate my selection 4.5 stars out of 5. The unit was a little expensive compared to the big box stores economy Brands but I thought this TV had alot of technology built into it & I had seen LG HDTV's in Motel rooms & @ friends homes. It has an amazingly clear picture even on standard cable & I am probably not going to upgrade to HD Cable for a while because of that. Beware tho; Optical Video out only; I can't run it thru my 20 Yr. old Pioneer VSx9500 Stereo Amp because there are no RCA video out connections, only a female 1/8th" female port for a head phone. I am going to try to find a Y adapter to RCA plug to hook up but this seems rediculous. The remote control must be aligned up close to the TV in order to switch channels Etc. Am still learning how to use all its features tho. Life's Good!Woodman71
Not so great August 23, 2010 TLRocket 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The TV arrived quickly but after setting it up with cable, we noticed that there isn't any sound when you turn on the TV. We have to turn it off then turn it back on to get sound, every... single... time! I will be calling LG shortly regarding this problem.
Great Picture Quality, Smooth 120Hz technology, great gaming mode August 7, 2010 HDvideogamer 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just received this TV an I'm very excited about it. I will add more to my review after I play a few Xbox 360 and PS3 games and watch more movies are .
Just a few things I notice.
-GAMERS, enable the game mode, it turns off all video filters and enhancement (intended for movies not games) that may delay your controller response, making the time between the moment you press a button to the time your character reacts, shorter. (you will notice his playing FIFA or guitar hero where a tiny delay is the difference between scoring or not) also on your xbox 360, go to settings video output, select 1080p. (if the video output, and screen native resolution match, it will save a few milliseconds of response time since the upscaling is eliminated)
-TruMotion 120Hz makes movies look really smooth, It makes movies look like a soap opera, no everybody like the effect,. but you can disable it.
-Use the Picture Wizard II feature, it will help you to improve the color accuracy, it a useful tool included with the TV, It really works!.
No wonder LG is top of the line July 27, 2010 Spotswood10 I have had this LCD for about 2 days now and I can say that it is the best LCD that I have ever owned. The colors are unbelievable, the picture is perfect. 1080p looks amazing. Overall if you are in the market looking for a great LCD TV to buy, this one is your best bet, especially for the price. Perfect for gaming.
